International Travel Updates
Good News Project began as an international service trip vehicle for volunteers under the gentle and capable leadership of our founders, Dr Chuck & Peg MacCarthy. Centralized in Wausau, Wisconsin Good News Project was created in 1983, with a focus on providing housing, medical and dental work, education for sustainable living and companionship for the poor.
Our organizational history of service and values stems from a 40-year presence in the West Indies, specifically. We have partnered with other institutions and built meaningful friendships with people in the countries of St Lucia, St Vincent, Dominica, Grenada and Union Island.
Through volunteer labor and generous housing sponsorships, our organizational family of over 600 volunteers housed over 1,400 people across the four countries
The Covid Pandemic halted all international travel as of March 2020. The silver lining to that halt was a current assessment of the modern-day needs of our friends in the West Indies. It brought about a St Lucian led collaboration to uplift the younger generation through education. Uniquely identifying that students who can excel in math can excel in business and, eventually, economic development of their own country.

On February 13, 2024 our Board of Directors issued the following statement:
“Our board plans to revisit the possibility of service trips in the West Indies in 2025. Meanwhile, Good News Project will continue to support the Math Camp 2024 initiative in St Lucia through fundraising and human resources.”
